Hey, Frances!

Have you recovered from filming Nomadland? Before you take on another project, let me suggest Nomadland 2, a film focusing on family homelessness. It will be even more earthshaking than #1.

As a full-time RVer for the past 15 years chronicling family homelessness in non-urban communities across the nation, I’ve had lots of folks chat me up about Nomadland. Their interest in life on the road for a single woman in a van has soared. Your role as Fern certainly depicted a more rugged existence than mine, but I can relate to plenty of those experiences.

Folks thought the Amazon component of Nomadland was bad. Nah. What I’ve seen is worse.

People will be shocked with how many families exist in dire circumstances, some in bedraggled vehicles, most in highly-mobile and awful situations.

I’ve done my best, as my one-woman nonprofit HEAR US Inc., to create video tools that can be used in schools to train staff, films that also can be used by the public. My videos aren’t talking heads — they’re real stories from real families in…
