Happiness is! My new Norcold DE-0061 refrigerator kicked on! After my previous one, same model, died after less than 8 years, I found a replacement (Norcold Guy) and had it installed (General RV, Huntley) in early August. Life in my Sprinter van (my only home) returned to normal, just in time. Mid-September is the beginning of my book tour.

Little did I know that kicking on would be the symptom that I would quickly dread. On, and on, and on…about a minute or so between on/off cycles. Not a good thing. Telltale ice crystals quickly mounted on the freezer surface. So I notified all three entities involved — the manufacturer, seller, and installer.

The manufacturer, Norcold, registered my unit for warranty. That technicality might come in handy. They referred me to a nearby dealer, but the actual dealer is a California company, and the answering service suggested get it bench tested where I bought it. The seller, the Norcold Guy, offered unhelpful advice — adjust the hinges. I didn’t get my degree in refrigeration, and my only experience with refrigerators is storing stuff to keep it cold. General RV offered to take a look, no promises, at $232 an hour. Not ready for that step.
