Refresher Course: 3 Qualities of REALLY Evil
A Plea: Restore Robin Hood
On this Sunday, a traditional day of worship for many Christians, my mind drifts back to teachings in my Catholic upbringing. One that jumps way out at me is the definition of “mortal sin,” the most egregious act of wrongdoing.
Remember these three ingredients?
- You know it’s wrong
- It’s seriously wrong
- You do it anyhow.
I’ll leave history and AG Merrick Garland to judge those involved in the seriously wrong January 6th sedition and related events. I want to hone in on more specific and often overlooked (especially in these days of media madness) events, and to point out those grievously harmed by these patterns of wrongdoing.
Focus on Riches/Greed
As a person who has what she needs, I’m baffled by those pursuing (and receiving) obscene amounts of money, like the President of New Jersey City University granted a $650 million “golden parachute” as she bailed on the day school officials announced a financial emergency that will impact low-income students, ripping them from the higher education track that would give them a chance to escape poverty.
