What Do I Get from Mercedes-Benz?

I’m getting a lot of mileage from the MB founder’s quote that I saw on the Kansas City Mercedes-Benz wall a few years ago. Gottlieb Daimler proclaimed “The best or nothing…” Perhaps it’s time for those who carry on in his name to refresh their commitment to the founder’s standard.

As more people are becoming aware, my 8-year history with Mercedes-Benz as the owner of a Sprinter van has been anything but the best. Currently, in March 2022, I’m stuck with what has been dubbed the “Limper Van” here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, awaiting parts for yet another repair of the exhaust system (my inadequate description of the technical issue).

Three months ago in the western suburbs of Chicago, my Sprinter, dubbed Tillie2, or T2, underwent what I’ve been told is the same repair I again need. That repair job (exhaust manifold), scheduled to take 2–3 days, took 2 weeks after a fiasco of parts and other problems at the MB end. I almost missed an event in Pennsylvania because of it.
